For a user who already uses Sparrow or Specter and is comfortable with Bitcoin-specific wallet software, the Keystone 3 Pro is the better value at $98. For a user who wants to hold Bitcoin + Ethereum + ERC-20 tokens and have a single device that handles all of them, the BitBox02 Multi is the right pick.

What we deliberately did not pick

Ledger Nano S Plus. Currently retails at $79 and meets every technical filter — but the closed-source firmware remains a real transparency tradeoff. If you read the flagship guide's openness comparison and concluded that closed-source secure elements are an acceptable tradeoff for you, the Nano S Plus is a perfectly defensible alternative to the BitBox02. We left it off this list because the card's scope was open-source firmware and BIP-39 recovery at sub-$100; the Nano S Plus splits those criteria.

Trezor Safe 7. Trezor's newest flagship (Bluetooth + color touchscreen) lists above $100 at most retailers, so it falls outside the entry-level scope. If your budget can stretch, it is the Trezor-line answer to the flagship tier.

What to do after you buy

The device is the easy part. The hard part is operational security for the seed phrase. Three things, in order:

  2. Store the backup in a second physical location. Two metal backups, in different buildings, with someone you trust who knows what they are. This is the floor of recovery.
  3. Practice the recovery before you need it. Wipe the device. Restore from seed. Confirm the balance. Do this on a weekend before your first six-figure holding, not after.

When to graduate

If your holdings cross roughly $50,000 equivalent, the conversation changes. A single hardware wallet has a single point of failure — lose the device and the seed backup simultaneously and your funds are gone.
